Ishawna’s Resurgence Continues

ishawna's resurgence continues

Take a seat Shenseea and step in Ishawna. Dancehall artiste Ishawna is looking to make a resurgence back into the dancehall space. Sometimes you need to do something controversial to get peoples’ attention and the Kingston native has done that in her latest video. Working with Britains Ed Sheehan last year seemed to turn people’s heads but her latest music video New Child has certainly got people talking. The artist features in an uplifting song for the ladies in what seems to be a church singing from the heart.

The video has drawn mixed emotions from the public in what some seem to think is a mockery of the church. Ishawna is seen to be preaching to a female congregation and the crowd mimics what regular churchgoers would be like come Sunday. Without a Christian message, people have castigated the artist saying she is mocking the church. To be fair I don’t really see the problem as it’s not in bad faith and she is singing about uplifting women. Producer Skatta Burrell has come out in her defense saying,

“Can’t please everyone. A few persons saying that the video [is] disrespecting God. Well dressed women coming together in unity celebrating and enjoying an uplifting song that empowers them is now mocking God? Thats not even a real church.”

Any[/embed] publicity is good publicity, right? Ishawna’s resurgence comes after dropping a track with England’s pop star Ed Sheeran ( Brace It ) in 2022, and a stellar performance at Reggae Sumfest 2022. She still has some way to go to catch up with the likes of Koffee and Shenseea however, it’s good to have her back after a hiatus from the industry. Signed to New York-based Payday Records in 2022, the artist has promised fans that she is up for it this year. Having finished shooting the Brace It video with Ed Sheehan be sure sure to look out for it in the foreseeable future.
