Popcaan is now officially a member of Drake’s record label, OVO Sound. Drake’s record label, OVO Sound, has officially signed up dancehall artist Popcaan as its latest artist.
The dancehall artist had a welcome party over the weekend after putting pen to paper. Popcaan uploaded photos on instagram, reflecting the OVO Unruly partnership.
Drake had hinted at the partnership during a performance last year at Unruly Fest saying that Popcann would officially become an OVO member for the record label.
Adding to this, during a 2015 interview, Popcaan had alluded to the facts of his relationship with OVO and Drake, and explained how Drake had come to know of his music.
“OVO is straight up family because Drake was the one that said OVO Unruly,†Popcaan explained.
“Drake has me as Drizzy Drake in Jamaica. So when I view Drake as a young youth that is doing well in the game it’s the same way I view myself also. A lot of my friends from Canada was around Drake was always telling Drake about my music.â€
Drake collaborated with Popcaan in 2016 for the single “Controlla,†and now with the signing, the artist also joins DVSN, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan and others as part of OVO Sound.
