American rapper Busta Rhymes always seems to touch base with his roots with numerous tracks with his native Jamaican kin. Precluding his tenth album release titled Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God. Busta released his collaboration single with incarcerated Vybz Kartel titled The Don and The Boss. With a fitting name for stalwarts in their respective industries, the track is just one of many tracks the artists have featured together. Other tracks include 2013’s You Already Know, Wine and Go Down and 2019’s Girlfriend with Torey Lanez and Beenie.
Details of when the album will be released have not come out yet. However, Busta has come out and said it should be soon. Whether there will be any other dancehall or reggae artists is still a mystery, but, I’m sure Busta will add more Caribbean flavour to his 10-year project.
On the same note of collaborations, whatever happened to the Missy Elliot and Spice collaboration? The men always seem to take centre stage but the aforementioned collab is one to savour for the ladies. Spice and Missy are no strangers to each other as they have previously worked together. Their track Fun in 2011 did not get a lot of critical acclaim. But, I’m sure another track now will do much better. The pair have remained friends and a combination of their brands now should do wonders.
As for now, look out for Busta Rhymes and Vybz Kartel. You may as well get used to this kind of collaboration with Vybz behind bars as he will not be coming out of prison anytime soon. Rock legend Johnny Cash was known for performing for inmates in various jails and I wonder if it will be possible for Jamaican prisons to have Vybz Kartel concerts. Would people pay money to go to a prison concert anyway?
