Lifetime Riddim – Lustre Kings

Eight voices ride Lifetime Riddim, and the cast tells you right away this is a roots-heavy set aimed at listeners who like their conscious reggae with a proper live feel: Lutan Fyah, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Akae Beka, Pressure, Vanessa Bongo, Randy Valentine and Danny I all take a turn across the project. Produced by the Zion I Kings camp for Lustre Kings in 2016, the riddim sits in that warm modern-roots pocket, with Fender Rhodes, guitar, organ and a firm drum-and-bass spine carrying the arrangements. There’s a little dub pressure in the mix too, but the mood stays measured and reflective rather than flashy. The strongest pull is the way the vocals are framed against a steady one-drop pulse, especially on Lutan Fyah’s “Put A Fyah In Deh” and Akae Beka’s title cut, where the bass stays deep and patient under the melody.
