Throwback Thursday – X-treme Riddim

nittykutchie19

This throwback Thursday edition takes us back to 2001. This is the second installment taking us to 2001. However there is a method to my madness as I would like to make special mention of a particular legend in the industry.

2001 is the year of iconic riddims like Buy Out Riddim, Drop Top Riddim, and Juice Riddim. However my focus today will be on X-Treme Riddim. The riddim was produced by Byron Murray and Clifford Smith on the Greensleeves 712 label.

The riddim is on that old school ragga tip for the original dancehall lovers. With the familiar electronic drum the rhythm keeps you on your toes constantly. The riddim is well subscribed with familiar household names including, Capleton, Sizzla, Mr Vegas, Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Harry Toddler, Nitty Kutchie and Hawkeye.

Stand out tracks worth mentioning are Sizzla’s No Slackness, Capleton with Man Bruk and Mr Vegas with See It Deh Now. The pick of the tracks is Nitty Kutchie with Cha La La La La. With the iconic hook “cha la la la la”, it is hard to forget and sticks out from the rest of the tracks.
