As we reflect on the year when it comes to celebrity gossip and their illuminated relationships. There was much talk about Stefflon Don and Burna Boy’s split, culminating in the hit track Last Last from the latter. There was the obvious unpleasant back and forth which happens when people do not part ways amicably.
All that said, the one relationship that I would like to highlight involves Popcaan the Unruly Boss and Miss World Toni-Ann Singh. There was plenty of speculation most of the year as the pair were spotted at numerous local and international destinations. The rumors turned to confirmation when Popcaan and Burna Boy released a track entitled Toni-Ann Singh. The track on Burna’s Love Damini drew a lot of attention and questions were answered when Popcaan confessed his love for the former Miss World model.
Subsequently, the pair have gone on and launched an official musical career for St Thomas born 2019 Miss World Winner. Popcaan’s Next To Me features Toni-Ann Singh and was released on Dec 7 and has been accepted by the Unruly family along with the Caribbean public. In addition, Popcaan continues to win as his girlfriend has now been quoted as saying her musical debut is a dream come true. Toni-Ann’s musical foray follows her Whitney Houston rendition of I Have Nothing in 2019, at the Miss World pageant and captured the world’s attention.
Their union has been likened to Bob Marly’s relationship with Cindy Brakespear who was a Miss World finalist in the 70s. You would think it’s all scripted, but, it is really unraveling for the Unruly Boss and his career continues to soar.
One could say this is a Jay and Beyonce equivalent, Caribbean style, and I am sure we will all warm up to that. With similar come-up stories and growing up 6km apart, the relationship is fairytale-esque with a dose of reality. I am sure most of us are romantic suckers and time will tell whether Popcaan and Toni-Ann will last. And who knows what will happen with her career? Well done to you Poppy, you have earned yourself valuable points and I am sure this gesture for Toni will go a long way for you.
