Up Close With Current Situation Riddim

Unlike dancehall artists, reggae artists naturally keep a low profile and hardly make the headlines for controversial things. So, it is easy to forget them as we don’t really know what’s happening in their life. What’s happening with Luciano or Tanya Stephens? What I do know is they quietly get on with it and make music here and there to pay the bills.

Thursdays are normally for throwbacks and reminiscing about yesteryear. However, today I will pay tribute to the old timers and direct attention to Current Situation Riddim. It’s not much of a throwback as the riddim was released on the 12^th of May 2023. Nevertheless, despite being called ‘Current Situation’ Riddim the sound evokes memories of old as it is on the same page as Lovers-Rock riddims of old like Think Twice Riddim, Relationships Riddim, or Heart and Soul Riddim.

The riddim features the likes of Luciano, Pressure Busspipe, Spragga Benz, Wayne Wonder and Tanya Stephens. Produced by Rich Affiliates Ent, Pound Da Pavement, and AC Muzyk, the riddim is on a conscious tip and is one for real reggae lovers. The conscious message is echoed by all the artists as they point out the current situation and appeal for better. From relationships, spirituality, loneliness, to social issues, the riddim covers all areas making for a wholesome project.

Current Situation Riddim is a gem of a riddim and definitely needs your attention. Totaling 30 mins in total, I am sure you can squeeze it into your weekend program. It will evoke memories of old, as you get to enjoy the oldskul artists of the 90s/2000s. After listening to the whole project it was hard to ascertain the better songs which is another reason I am advocating for it. Brace yourself up for a trip down memory lane and for the newbies, this is what reggae is all about. Educate yourselves.
