Orville Richard Burrell, born on 22 October 1968 in Kingston, Jamaica, is a reggae and dancehall artist, DJ, singer, and actor. During 1987, apart from the singing lessons he took, Burrell sang on the streets with his friends and that was how he was discovered. In 1988, he enlisted to go to war via United States Marine Corps and he kept working on his singing talent during his military career. “Oh Carolina” was his 1st hit in 1993 and he went on to work with producers like Robert Livingston and Sting International, just to mention a few. “Bombastic” was a massive hit all over the world in 1995 and also “That Girl” which he collaborated with Maxi Priest. Hot Shot album was certified in the year 2000 a 6x platinum in the US. Lucky Day and Clothes Drop were albums released in 2002 and 2005 respectively and after Clothes Drop, he started performing live a lot more such that at the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2007, he did the song “The Game of Love and Unity” Intoxication followed though it was an album released under his own label Big Yard Records. In 2007, he was awarded the rank of Commander in the Jamaican Order Of Distinction. Shaggy toured internationally a lot in 2008 and performed with different artists like Natalia. In the 2010s, He released official music videos for “Girls Dem Luv We” featuring Mavado, “For Your Eyes Only” and “Sweet Jamaica.” He also released his album Shaggy And Friends in 2011. In 2012, came Rise, his 11th album. Shaggy had an album he was working on which would be released in 2013 summer which had a popular single title “Fight This Feeling.” In 2015-2016, he did several collaborations with different artists like Kylie Minogue, Nicky Jam, and Mylene Farmer. “Don’t Make Me Wait” was a collaboration done with Sting in January 2018 and Sting invited Shaggy on tour. Wah Gwaan?! was his 12th studio album released in 2019. After turning down Rihanna’s team on the collaboration of her 9th album in January 2020 because he wanted to leave it to the younger artists, he announced in April 2020 and celebrated the 20 year anniversary of his Hot Shot album in 2000 and stated he was making an updated version of it titled Hot Shot 2020.
