Mikayla Simpson, born 16 February 2000 in Spanish Town, Jamaica is a reggae singer, rapper, guitarist, songwriter, and deejay. In 2019, she signed up with Columbia Records after she released her first single “Legend” in 2017. So far, Koffee is the only woman and the youngest person to receive the Best Reggae Album award at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards for her 2019 EP Rapture album. Koffee sang for her church choir because of her mum’s religious influence. She taught herself how to play the guitar using a borrowed guitar. Her lyrics were inspired by listening to Protoje, a reggae artist. Koffee participated in an audition in 2016 at Ardenne High School in Kingston without realizing it. Her confidence rose and to perform live in her final year of high school and that was her defining moment. After her tribute song “Legend” to Usain Bolt on Instagram went viral in 2017, Cocoa tea introduced Koffee at a reggae festival called Reggae Salute where she performed with her musical icons Chronixx and Protoje. In 2018, Protoje asked Koffee to perform with him and Chronixx had a live broadcast and invited Koffee at BBC Radio 1Xtra from Tuff Gong Studios, and she toured with him in the UK. In 2019, Izybeats and Walshy Fire of Major Lazer produced “Toast”, Chronixx and Protoje both feature in the video. On 18 February 2020, Nick Cannon had Koffee as his guest on his sketch comedy Wild ‘N Out, aired on VH1.
