It seems like Mavado is going back to his old ways of making bangers once more. Yeah, I know, it’s a tad bit harsh. However, he does give a solid account of himself in his latest gritty dancehall track Artillery. The trap dancehall tune hits home with fire lyrics and yes, pun intended. The DJ Frass production has already garnered 240k views on his Vevo channel since its release on the 28th of February. The track features on High Rev Riddim alongside other notable artists like Jahmiel, I-Octane, Moyann and Ding Dong.
Not that I am adding fuel to a bubbling beef. But, the track has been rumoured to be an attack on Popcaan. Just last week, Poppy made a dig at the Gully Gawd on social media captioning a girl asleep while a Vado song was on. Coincidentally the track in the club changed to a Popcaan song and the patron woke up to the music. Thus bringing about a wise crack from the Unruly Boss. Mavado is yet to comment if the speculation is correct but one would assume Popcaan is among some of the people on Vado’s mind as he spit his bars.
Come to think of it, Mavado does make some of his best music in the cloud of a good beef. Vado made some of his better, if not best music, in the late 2000s when his beef with Vybz Kartel was in full force. Who can forget tracks like Hope and Pray, High Unda and So Blessed. Artillery is not quite at the same level but the Gully Gawd is onto something here.
Mavado has also had other noteworthy tracks so far this year. He slowed it right down in his last release Truest Thoughts where we witnessed how deep and emotional he can be. Its high time he releases an album. Its been more than ten years now.
