In what seemed part of an episode of Paramount Network’s 1000 Ways To Die, Jamaican dancer Roxy recently passed away following a dance routine accident. The incident happened as Roxy, also known as Bumpa, did a routine dance move with Gladiator Dance partner Momo and unfortunately broke her neck.
I guess when your time is up, it really is up. The pair had been challenging for JA$3,500 at a spontaneous dance challenge when things went horribly wrong. The routine which they had probably done hundreds of times required Bumpa to initially do a headstand and rotate her body 180°. After which, Momo would then jump over her.
Bumpa played her part. But, things went pear shaped when Momo fluffed her jump and landed on her colleague. Thus forcing Bumpa to break her neck. Due to the unexpected pressure from Momo, Bumpa died on the spot.
Social media has the video showing the accident and has the legendary dancer unresponsive as soon as her body hit the ground from the head stand.
Fans of Bumpa have come out on social media and are urging Momo to turn herself into the authorities. They attribute the accident to her bodyweight. Officers have not approached the dancer as yet. Furthermore, I don’t feel they will as it seems it was just an on the job accident.
“Me a go over her and me bodyweight come down but a nuh di whole a me bodyweight me put over her. But the bodyweight weh me put dung pan her, and she go down pan her neck, yo understand.” Said Momo.
Bumpa was a renowned dancer from the Gladiator Girls group from Montego Bay, Jamaica. She won several awards for her craft and was known for daring dance moves. She is survived by her two sons Dani and Teddy.
A very sad incident indeed. RIP Bumpa.
